Religion and ethics

Special Religious Education (SRE)

Special Religious Education (SRE), commonly known as scripture, will commence at Weston Public School in Term 1, 2026. In NSW public schools, SRE is provided in accordance with the NSW Department of Education policy, which allows approved religious providers to offer education about their faith during school time.

At Weston Public School, SRE will be delivered by Hunter Christian SRE, a local organisation that works with schools across the Hunter region to provide age-appropriate Christian education. Their lessons explore key Bible stories, the life and teachings of Jesus, and Christian values such as kindness, respect, compassion, forgiveness and service to others.

Hunter Christian SRE teachers are authorised and trained by their organisation and use approved teaching materials. Lessons are designed to be engaging for students and may include storytelling, discussion, music and interactive activities that encourage students to reflect on positive values and respectful relationships with others.

Participation in SRE is voluntary. Parents and carers may choose whether their child attends SRE or participates in alternative meaningful activities supervised by school staff during this time.
