Welcome to Weston Public School, a vibrant and caring school community where every student is known, valued, and cared for. We have an enrolment of approximately 270 students across 11 mainstream classes, K-6. All students are encouraged to reach their full potential.
Our dedicated staff are committed to fostering a culture of excellence, inclusion, and respect. We focus on innovative teaching methods, enhancing our curriculum, and providing support for every student’s unique learning journey and diverse needs.
At Weston Public School we recognise that literacy and numeracy are critical skills that form the basis for lifelong learning and success. We are committed to providing our students with high-quality programs that foster these essential competencies. Explicit teaching underpins the teaching of all key learning areas to enhance student understanding and mastery of essential skills.
Student wellbeing is at the forefront of everything we do and is supported by ‘The Coach to Cope’ wellbeing program which is embedded into school practices. It aims to equip our students with problem-solving skills and emotional management strategies, preparing them for the challenges of the future. Our core values of being safe, respectful and responsible guide our interactions and positive behaviour. Our kindergarten students are supported by ‘the spot’ speech pathology program to assess and assist students in their first year at school with articulation and speaking with confidence.
As we continue to embrace the 21st century, the integration of technology in our educational practices at Weston Public School is more important than ever. We are passionate about providing our students with the tools and skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. All students have access to an electronic device to support and enhance their learning in the classroom and are involved in explicit technology sessions on a weekly basis.
At Weston Public School, we believe that cultural activities play a vital role in enriching our students’ educational experiences and fostering a sense of community. We are devoted to promoting diversity, inclusion, and understanding through a wide range of cultural programs and events. Throughout the year, we celebrate various cultural festivals and events that reflect the backgrounds of our students and the wider community. These events provide opportunities for students to learn about and appreciate different cultures through food, music, dance, and traditions. Aboriginal cultural activities and Indigenous games are delivered weekly along with students’ involvement in the Aboriginal Education Team.
We recognise the vital role that community partnerships play in enhancing our educational programs and enriching the experiences of our students. Our school is fortunate to be supported by our loyal P&C Association who provide ongoing resources and support. We encourage parents and community members to be involved in school activities and events for the benefit of their children.
At Weston Public School we have a strong partnership with our local schools in the Kurri Kurri Learning Community. We work together to enhance learning practices and processes and to foster smooth transitions from Year 6 to Year 7, Preschool to Kindergarten and Year 2 to Year 3. We also provide additional opportunities each year for students requiring transition support for the follow school year within our school environment.
Here, at our school, we work together to inspire our students to be curious, resilient, and compassionate individuals. We achieve our positive environment as a united community.
